Mobile Application Privacy Policy

Thank you for using a mobile application provided by The Pennsylvania State University (“Penn State”) and WPSU. This Mobile Application Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”) generally describes the privacy practices for certain of Penn State’s mobile applications, including how we collect and process personal data. By using the mobile applications governed by this Privacy Policy, you are consenting to our collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Collection, Use and Sharing of Information

Penn State does not require you to identify yourself while using any of our mobile applications governed by this Privacy Policy. Penn State mobile applications governed by this Privacy Policy do not collect your Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”) (as defined by Penn State Policy AD53), but we may automatically collect and store general information about you and your use of our mobile applications; however, that information does not identify you personally unless you choose to provide your personal information. The information that we collect is used to track how users interact with our mobile applications, so that we can improve the user’s experience and make other improvements to the services and resources that we make available via Penn State’s mobile applications. Information is automatically stored and used in aggregate form only and is not used to contact you personally; however, anonymous information collected during your use of our mobile application may be associated with you if you choose to provide your personal information to Penn State in connection with your use of our mobile applications.

Certain of Penn State’s mobile applications, including without limitation the Penn State Go app, allow you to opt-in to allow the mobile application access to your geo-location data. Penn State mobile applications will not collect your geo-location data unless you opt-in. If you opt-in, Penn State mobile applications may use either the device’s geographical coordinates (latitude and longitude) or its proximity to a specific Bluetooth beacon to determine if a push notification should be sent to the device or user. In all cases, location information or Bluetooth beacon proximity is solely used to determine if a push notification should occur. Penn State does not track or retain location data. Location data is never used for any purpose other than as described in this Privacy Policy. You may opt-out of sharing your geo-location data at any time using your device’s settings.

Penn State may share information with contracted non-Penn State entities, third-party vendors, or service providers to provide services to you on our behalf. Penn State may also offer opportunities for you to opt-in to receive information from non-Penn State entities. If you opt-in, you may receive correspondence from these organizations on programs, products or services that might interest you. You will always have the opportunity to opt-out with these organizations directly by using their unsubscribe or opt-out process.
